Produktbeschreibung

When kidney function declines, there is an accumulation of kidney-dependent substances in the blood, as the excretion rate of substances such as urea, creatinine, and phosphorus is reduced.
Most patients have already noticeably lost body mass by the time of diagnosis, as the high amount of uremic substances in the blood leads to nausea and thus reduced appetite. It is therefore particularly important to offer a highly palatable food.
To ensure the best possible nutrition supply, our wet food is characterized by a slightly increased fat content and a moderately reduced protein intake. A high quality of protein – in our case muscle meat – is preferred over offal. Additionally, the wet food impresses with a balanced ratio of phosphorus and calcium. This is necessary because in kidney patients, the phosphorus content is usually too high, and the excessive phosphorus can be better excreted through the formation of phosphorus-calcium complexes. Another factor is that kidney patients have an increased renal loss – for this reason, our VET kidney diet wet food has an increased amount of vitamins A and B to meet the needs. At the same time, the dog should always have sufficient water available to ensure regular "flushing" of the kidneys and thus the excretion of metabolic waste products. To encourage kidney patients to eat, it may be helpful to offer the food slightly warmed and to divide it into 3 daily rations.
