Produktbeschreibung
For dogs that have a rather dull, lifeless coat despite good care, supplementing with B vitamins – especially B1, but also B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, and B12 – can help improve coat quality. The mentioned B vitamins are found in high amounts in brewer's yeast. The addition of brewer's yeast has also proven effective in supporting the shedding process.
Biotin is significantly involved in the formation of keratin. If dogs show not only dull fur but also brittle claws, this may be due to a biotin deficiency. Increased hair loss, itching, and associated skin inflammations can also be observed in this context.
It is often recommended to provide biotin by feeding raw eggs. However, it should be noted that only the yolk contains biotin. The egg white, on the other hand, contains avidin, which binds biotin and thus makes it inaccessible to the organism. There is also the risk of salmonella transmission when feeding raw eggs to keep in mind. Therefore, it is preferable to administer a biotin mono-preparation or a combination preparation that contains sufficient biotin.
Zinc is an essential trace element involved in numerous metabolic processes in the skin. It ensures adequate wound healing after injuries or surgical procedures, regulates sebum production, and is involved in transformation processes such as the regulated keratinization of the skin.
In patients with atopic dermatitis – a skin condition characterized by an immune-mediated damage to the acid mantle of the skin and thus the skin barrier – the use of unsaturated fatty acids has shown great success. These fatty acids influence enzymatic processes at the cell membrane and also modulate the formation of signaling molecules involved in the cascade of inflammatory processes.
The use of linoleic and α-linolenic acid as well as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acid showed a reduction in itching and a significant improvement in coat quality in affected dogs. The barrier function of the skin was strengthened, resulting in lower moisture loss and the skin appeared less dry. The simultaneous administration of immunosuppressive medications (e.g. cortisone) could also be significantly reduced.
